My Bucket List

Whether people have actually written a bucket list down or not, I think most have one in their heads. At some point, most of us have said that we were going to do something before we died. Although, I doubt I’ll do most of these because of money, I can always dream – which is something I’m really good at.

Nature Walking in June of 2014

Nature Walking - June 2014 | Flowers, Animals, Fish and more! | Huddlenet.com

This gallery contains 19 photos.

At the end of May I started getting exercise. Not just “more” exercise but “some” exercise! For the last several years I’ve been really good at holding my computer chair in place. All that that has accomplished is to make me severely out of shape and unhealthy.

I began with water aerobics for an hour and within a week I added walking for a half hour. I’m now walking about 1.7 miles a day and I hope to increase it to 2.5 by the end of July. Being very obese, walking isn’t very easy or enjoyable.

In order to make walking a little more palatable, I challenge myself to find one interesting or beautiful picture. Sometimes I find several in one day. Sometimes I find weird things that I doubt anyone else would be interested in.

Review: From Mama’s Table to Mine Cookbook

From Mama's Table to Mine by Bobby Deen

Recently the Huddles won the cookbook From Mama’s Table to Mineby Bobby Deen, courtesy of Diane at Recipes for Our Daily Bread. This was rather neat for a couple of reasons…

  1. We NEVER win anything and it was the SECOND giveaway we won in a week! WHOA!
  2. We had JUST decided to change the way we eat!!

I couldn’t wait to dig into the cookbook. I love to read them from front to back, marking recipes that catch my eye. The very first recipe in the book, “Bobby’s Pimiento Cheese” jumped off the page at me. Cheese is one of my very favorite snacks and this recipe is a double whammy with cream cheese and cheddar cheese.

Review: Handmade by Hon Scarves

Beautiful Scarves - Handmade by Hon

When I won a second giveaway in one week, this one offered by Amanda at Quiet Workings, I was pretty certain I had a lucky clover hiding somewhere in the house. When I saw the beautiful selection of scarves that Victoria of Handmade by Hon offered, I did a little happy dance in my chair. Getting to choose my own prize was indeed awesome!

Because I’m a good mom (patting self on back), I let my daughter pick. I don’t know if she chose this scarf because it was called “Handmade Cotton Candy Ruffle Scarf” or if she chose it because of the beautiful pink colors but I’m glad she chose this one. The colors just pop and when it’s piled up, it definitely reminds me of cotton candy. (Megan loves cotton candy and cotton candy flavored treats.)

Reviewing Our TLCVoxBox from Influenster

TLCVoxBox from Influenster.com

We received a box full of goodies from Influenster.com for product review and testing. Over the last month we’ve poked, prodded and had a good time with all of it!

Included in our box was the following items: Ivory Soap, Bryers Gelato Indulgences, Neosporin Neo to Go!, Puffs to Go, Shell Rewards Network Card, and Avon ANEW Reversalist.

Of all the products in the box when I opened it, I was most intrigued by the Avon ANEW and the Bryers Gelato. I was weary of the Ivory and the Shell Rewards program.

Someone’s In The Kitchen with WordPress Plugins

I'm Back

After buying a new camera and updating the site’s software, I’m back in the kitchen. Last year blogging had gotten frustrating when my pictures constantly looked fuzzy and ugly!

On top of that, it was a lot of work putting the recipes on the website. If I wanted to make a change, it was like doing cartwheels! Of course, if I *could* do cartwheels, I’d be so excited I would want to take pictures!! I’m not certain I could do a somersault. Although, I can definitely roll.

Stop Counting to 3 & Start Teaching Responsibility

Stop Counting to 3 & Start Teach Responsibility | Reasons why you shouldn't count to three with an alternative way to get your child to behave. | #Children #Parenting #Behavior |Huddlenet.com

When it comes to parenting, we all have our opinions. Spanking vs. No Spanking. Co-sleeping vs. Crying it out. Cloth vs. Disposable. Formula vs. Breast. Yeah, there’s a lot of decisions to make and wade though.

One seemingly innocent parenting skill, is to count to three. The purpose of which is that if your child doesn’t respond within that count, an appropriate punishment would be handed out. Unfortunately, there is one major pitfall to this method plus a scary possibility. Let’s start with the pitfall.

We all know that before the age of five, children absorb and learn faster and easier than at any age. Repetition and patterns teach us better than anything else. Ever watched a children’s educational program? They repeat the same numbers, letters, colors, etc. over and over throughout the same program because it helps it to stick.
