Pain has once again laid me low. I do not like it. Who does?
I have psoriatic arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, and gout. I’m not certain which of these are the problem or if there is something new. My doctor was booked up and the next appointment wasn’t available for two weeks. This leaves me with two weeks of pain and swelling.
The swelling is easy to deal with – ibuprofen and keeping my feet elevated. The pain though, is another subject. I’m not crazy about pain medications. Either I sleep all day or I can’t sleep at all. So what to do, what to do?!

Years ago, while I was still working, I was speaking with a co-worker about the pain I experienced while driving home. He suggested putting my favorite music on loudly and singing along. It was a simple suggestion and I was pretty skeptical.
Only thing was.. he was right. For mild to moderate pain – the music worked. I put John Melloncamp or Def Leppard in the CD player and sang as loud as I could. The pain took a backseat (pardon the pun) and I arrived home with a smile on my face. To this day, I still crank up the tunes when I’m hurting and I wish to avoid pain medication.
Don’t start listening to classical music thinking it would be soothing. I would recommend choosing music you enjoy singing or something you really connect with.
